MUSIC MINISTRY

The Sacred Liturgy is alway enhanced by music. While some people like a “quiet Mass,” most people are aided in their devotional experience of the Eucharist by service music. At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, we are fortunate to have not one, but three organs. There is a pipe organ in the choir loft, as well as an electronic one, and there is a newly installed electronic organ in the nave, near the sanctuary. There is also a baby grand piano near this nave organ. Dr. John Murez is the music minister of our parish, and he provides music for most of the services. We are pleased to have Miss Megan Kohler as our leader of song and soloist. While there is no instrumental music at the 8:00 A.M. Mass on Sunday mornings, Charles Pratt, a volunteer, leads the congregation in song a cappella.

Choir

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is proud of our choir, which is comprised of ten volunteer choir members. Dr. John Murez is pictured here with most of the members. Megan Kohler is at the far left of the photo. The choir sings almost every Sunday at the 10:00 Mass, twelve months of the year. The choir also sings at the Solemn Mass of Christmas–9:30 P.M. Carol Service and 10:00 P.M. Mass. They also sing at all the Holy Week services. They practice on Wednesday evening, 8:00-9:00 P.M. The choir is already ready to receive new members. Please contact Dr. Murez at the rectory number.

The type of music used at Mass is a wide variety of classical, traditonal, and modern music, in English, Latin, and occasionally Italian.

Dr. Murez and Miss Kohler are also available to provide music for the weddings that take place at our parish church. Once again, please contact them through the rectory.
